About us

XTENTEC brings together FlexIT and T1A, two European specialists in circular IT. We refurbish, repair, rent and resell IT equipment so that devices stay in use longer and less electronic waste is created. With offices in 10 European countries and more than 200.000 devices sold each year, we support business customers at every stage of the IT lifecycle.

Sustainability is at the core of our business model and of our growth plans. We are now building a group ESG function and are looking for a Group ESG Manager to build and lead it.

Key facts

Location: Leiden, the Netherlands preferred, with other group offices possible, and regular visits to our sites in Denmark and other countries.

Employment type: Full time (part time 32 hours possible), initial 12-month contract with the intention of a permanent position.

Reporting to: Executive Director, Corporate Services

Language: Fluent English required. Dutch or Danish is an advantage.

Start date: As soon as possible

The role

As Group ESG Manager you are responsible for how the group measures, manages and reports on its environmental, social and governance performance. You set the environmental strategy and impact measurement, you own the annual ESG and EU Taxonomy reporting, and you coordinate progress on social and governance commitments with the colleagues who own them. You work closely with the executive team, the operating companies and our investor, and you report to the board on ESG at least once a year. In the first phase you build the framework, data process and systems. Over time the focus shifts from building to steering: using the data to drive improvement and to engage colleagues, customers, our investor and the wider market.

Key responsibilities

Environmental strategy and impact measurement

  • Develop and implement the group's environmental strategy and action plan, including the impact roadmap agreed with our investor.
  • Lead impact assessments at group level and per process (such as avoided emissions, avoided water use and materials recovered) and make sure the methods are sound, consistent over time and well documented.
  • Measure the group's carbon footprint and develop and implement a decarbonization pathway.
  • Oversee environmental data collection and analysis at group level and per process (such as ITAD, refurbishment, repair and rental), across all companies and countries.
  • Review the group's business travel policy, in line with our footprint targets.

Reporting

  • Provide the data and method for customer impact reports and sustainability questionnaires from customers.
  • Own the annual ESG reporting, EU Taxonomy reporting and impact KPI reporting to our investor, working with Finance on the financial data.
  • Maintain the group's ESG and impact KPIs and targets, and track progress against them.
  • Set up the data process, controls and documentation to guarantee auditability of reported figures.
  • Prepare the annual ESG and impact update for the executive team and the board.

Coordination of social and governance commitments

  • Coordinate the group's progress on its social and governance commitments, working with the owners in HR, Finance, Legal, Procurement and the board. Topics include employee benefits and value sharing, gender balance and pay equity, the supplier code of conduct, business ethics and board governance.
  • Keep an overview of all ESG commitments, their owners and their status, and flag delays or risks early to the Executive Director, Corporate Services.
  • Support the owners with frameworks, data and good practice.

Engagement and development

  • Act as the group's ESG contact for our investor and for customers, together with management.
  • Work with Commercial and Marketing on how we communicate our impact to customers and the market.
  • Work with the ESG and operations leads across the business, and with the Executive Director Operations, on data systems, so that data collection and reporting are automated where possible and run as a regular process.
  • In close collaboration with the HR department, raise ESG awareness and provide training across the group.
  • Monitor developments in sustainability regulations and impact assessment methods within the circular IT sector, contribute to sector-wide work on the development of common methodologies and collaborate with stakeholders within the industry and beyond to support a broader adoption of ITAD.

Education

A master's degree or equivalent in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, business, finance or a related field.

Experience

  • At least 5 to 7 years of experience in ESG or sustainability, including responsibility for ESG reporting.
  • Experience building or scaling a sustainability function, program or reporting process from an early stage.
  • Practical experience with carbon accounting and impact measurement (for example GHG Protocol, life cycle methods, avoided emissions).
  • Experience working with senior management and presenting to a board or investors.
  • Experience in circular IT, electronics, refurbishment or the secondhand economy is a strong advantage. Experience in a private equity-backed company is an advantage.

Knowledge and skills

  • Good knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks and EU rules on sustainability, including the EU Taxonomy and rules on environmental claims.
  • Understanding of social and governance topics such as diversity, pay equity, supply chain standards and business ethics.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort with large data sets.
  • Project management skills and the ability to get things done through colleagues you do not manage.

Personal qualities

  • Accurate and independent; you stand behind the figures you report.
  • Able to explain complex topics clearly to different audiences.
  • Collaborative across companies, countries and functions, and confident with external stakeholders.
  • Able to influence people at all levels and build support for our sustainability agenda, inside and outside the group.
  • Pragmatic and hands-on: you combine daily delivery with a longer-term view and build the function step by step in a growing group.
  • Willing and able to visit our European sites regularly.
